CMIG – Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology

Rare is the occasion, rarer still the recognition of a luminous soul manifesting her divinity in a great persona, whose life is a shining testament of unwavering dedication and steadfast commitment to the cause of Senior Citizens of our community. Seldom do we come across a visionary idol who is also noble at heart, passionate at work, a highly revered academic and an outstanding activist, all mingled in one lifetime of meditation. Such a one we rever, such a one we, members of CMIG feel blessed to work with. She is no other than Dr. Indrani Chakravarty, Founder/Secretary of CMIG, our beloved ‘madam’. Her manifold contributions in the field of Gerontology & Geriatric Care has given shape to a shrine of unity in her life from which, far & near, salutations arrive to which we join our own

In Focus

Seva Sakhi-Community Care Givers course will equip the care givers with required knowledge to look after the ageing community with care. Seva Sakhis are NOT medical workers. They will provide hand-holding support to a person who has become dysfunctional temporarily or is incapacitated due to ageing etc. However, they should be equipped to advice for seeking medical help at any required point of time. At their own village/community level they may advice persons in need and facilitate interaction with medical/ health frontline workers for their benefit.
